TRSA to unveil research project to enumerate textiles’ green impact in U.S.

TRSA has announced on their website their plans to unveil a major research project that will show the “green” virtues of reusable textiles, as compared with their disposable counterparts, on March 19 at the TRSA Leadership & Legislative Conference in Washington, DC.

TRSA consultant Exponent Inc. will present findings (to be peer-reviewed shortly after) from its life cycle assessment (LCA) of reusable napkins, isolation gowns and shop towels, plus their disposable equivalents. LCAs measure cradle-to-grave environmental impacts of product consumption. From the extraction of raw materials used in manufacturing a product, to the energy needed to consume it, to the implications of its disposal after its use, an LCA calculates its total natural resource depletion. The Leadership & Legislative Conference enables TRSA members to impact TRSA initiatives, while at the same time helping to advance the textile services industry’s advocacy agenda.
